FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 3, 2025 Miami Beach Recognizes 10 Exemplary Women
— New Lummus Park exhibit honors a celebrity chef, local news anchor and the first
female Miami Beach fire chief among others — Miami Beach, FL – Celebrity chef and restauranteur Michelle Bernstein, WSVN-TV news anchor Belkys Nerey and Miami Beach Fire Chief Digna Abello are among 10 exemplary women who will be honored at a new outdoor exhibit in Lummus Park during Women’s History Month in March.
“Women’s leadership strengthens Miami Beach every day with talent, dedication, and expertise that are truly remarkable," said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. "I have the utmost respect for the exemplary women whose skills shape and guide our community forward."
The “2025 Exemplary Women” exhibit also celebrates philanthropist Toby Lerner Ansin, dermatologist Leslie Baumann, author Judy Blume, community activist Deborah Plutzik Briggs, environmentalist Sophie Ringel, Olympic gold medalist Twanisha "TeeTee" Terry and DJ Tracy Young. The official ribbon-cutting for the exhibit will take place on Tuesday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Lummus Park on Ocean Drive between 8 and 9 streets. Most of the honorees are expected to attend the event. “It’s an honor to celebrate the legacy of these remarkable women who have not only shaped
the future of Miami Beach, but set a powerful example of resilience, innovation and leadership,” added Lynette Long, who chairs the Miami Beach Commission for Women, which is sponsoring the exhibit along with the Miami Design Preservation League. “Their stories are a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose.” The exhibit can be viewed free of charge throughout the month of March in Lummus Park. ###
