2 Miami Beach Infrastructure Projects Win Top Awards
— The Miami Beach Public Works Department picked up a pair of APWA Honors —
Miami Beach, FL – The Miami Beach Public Works Department has won two prestigious
project-of-the-year awards for major infrastructure projects from the Florida chapter of the
American Public Works Association (AWPA).
“We’re very proud of our Public Works Department,” said Miami Beach City Manager Eric T.
Carpenter. “These are the types of projects that elevate the day-to-day quality of life for our
residents, strengthen aging infrastructure and will continue to meet the needs of the city well
into the future.”
The department earned a project-of-the-year award in the water/wastewater category for the 41
Street water main replacement project, which employed Horizontal Directional Drilling
(HDD) equipment to replace aging pipes, increase system reliability and enhance water quality.
The new water main is expected to have a lifespan of 70-100 years.
The department picked up a second project-of-the-year award in the beautification/landscaping
category for its landscape aesthetics along Indian Creek Drive. That project enhanced the
pedestrian experience by giving residents and visitors a beautiful walkway to enjoy waterway
views and reconnect with nature.
