Miami Beach Police Department's Operation 4K Yields Major Results
in Art Deco Cultural District
–Coordinated enforcement effort leads to dozens of arrests, multiple seizures, and measurable
crime reduction in South Beach–
Miami Beach, FL — The Miami Beach Police Department is pleased to announce the
successful completion of Operation 4K, a targeted initiative aimed at addressing ongoing
quality-of-life concerns and illegal vending activity within the Art Deco Cultural District (ADCD).
The six-week operation was conducted in partnership with Miami Beach Code Compliance and
supported by the Miami Beach City Attorney’s Office. Over the course of the operation, officers
made 26 felony arrests, 26 misdemeanor arrests, and 18 ordinance arrests. The effort also led
to the seizure of narcotics, illicit cash, firearms, and professional-grade cameras linked to
unlicensed business activity.
A post-operation analysis revealed a measurable reduction in crime across the target zones.
Year-to-date comparisons indicated a 27% decrease in reported crimes along Ocean Drive, a
17% decrease across the broader Art Deco Cultural District, and a 20% reduction throughout
the South Beach district.
Operation 4K also resulted in several noteworthy arrests that underscore the department’s
comprehensive approach to enforcement.
During one incident, officers conducted a traffic stop after the Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) observed illegal activity inside a vehicle parked along the Ocean Drive corridor. The investigation revealed that two parents were “hot-boxing” the vehicle while their two-year-old child was inside. Both adults were taken into custody and charged with child abuse.
“Operation 4K reflects our department’s commitment to proactive policing, accountability, and
collaboration,” said Chief Wayne A. Jones. “Our goal is to ensure residents, visitors, and
business owners continue to experience a safe and vibrant Miami Beach. The success of this
operation demonstrates what’s possible when our teams work together with focus and
determination.”
The success of Operation 4K was attributed to the coordinated efforts of multiple specialized
units within the Miami Beach Police Department, including the Real-Time Intelligence Center,
which provided live monitoring, suspect tracking, and video evidence throughout the operation.
MBPD worked closely with the Miami Beach City Attorney’s Office to ensure that many of those
apprehended received stay-away orders from the area—reinforcing the operation’s long-term
deterrent impact. The City Attorney’s Office and Code Enforcement Division also played key
roles by ensuring that ordinance violations were prosecuted effectively and resolved promptly.
Operation 4K further uncovered several unlicensed photography and solicitation operations that
had been negatively affecting local businesses and tourists. Multiple repeat offenders were
identified and flagged for prosecution, and intelligence indicated that some individuals left the
state following enforcement actions. Additionally, two previously unlicensed golf-cart operators
obtained proper business licensing as a direct result of the operation’s education and
enforcement components.
