February 19, 2026 City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places Program Honors Women's History Month with Artwork Unveilings The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to announce the unveiling of two (2) permanent Art in Public Places artworks by women artists during Women's History Month in March 2026. The Women's History Month celebration begins with the unveiling of She Spoke for the Birds, a mural by Christina Pettersson honoring Marjory Stoneman Douglas in her namesake park. The month concludes with the installation of BirdHouse, a sculpture by Michele Oka Doner at Bayshore Park, as detailed below. SUNDAY, MARCH 8, 2026 Christina Pettersson-She Spoke for the Birds, Mural Unveiling Marjory Stoneman Douglas Park 225 Ocean Drive 10:00 AM Christina Pettersson's She Spoke for the Birds mural depicts Marjory Stoneman Douglas relaxing in the Florida Everglades, the habitat she spent her life protecting. The mural unveiling will include guests from Friends of the Everglades, the organization Douglas founded, as well as members of the Miami Beach Commission for Women. FRIDAY, MARCH 27, 2026 Michele Oka Doner-BirdHouse, Sculpture Unveiling Bayshore Park 2795 Prairie Avenue 10:30 AM Michele Oka Doner's BirdHouse draws inspiration from her childhood in Miami Beach and the natural features of Bayshore Park and the city. Made of mica, the sculpture stands twenty feet high and six (6) feet in diameter at Fairview Hill in Bayshor� Park. The unveiling will include poetry by 0, Miami's Sunroom program students and the sounds of a Caribbean conch in one of Miami Beach's most tranquil green spaces.
