The Mermaid sculpture is permanently installed in the lawn area adjacent to The Fillmore Miami Beach near the corner of 17 Street and Washington Avenue. As part of the Art in Public Places (AiPP) 10-year conservation schedule, the conservation services were contracted following 1TB 2026-112-JP, which established a qualified pool of eligible vendors. Following the establishment of the vendor pool, ITQ 2026-001-TCD was shared with the three (3) eligible vendors, resulting in one proposal from RLA Conservation, which was approved at the February 25, 2026, City Commission meeting via Procurement Request (C2 E). The Mermaid sculpture will receive on-site treatment, including chemical removal of existing coatings, welding, restoration of concrete surfaces, cleaning of the pool basin, and the application of new paint stack approved in consultation with the Getty Conservation Institute and conservation colleagues. Work will be documented with a written report and photographs before, during, and after treatment. There will be a conservation team on site performing the work Monday through Friday each week, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, starting in March 2026, for approximately two (2) months. A temporary six-foot-high scrim fencing will be placed around the artwork for the duration of the treatment and will be removed upon completion of the restoration work in June 2026. The conservation schedule is subject to adjustments pending potential weather delays.
