HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34134RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34134 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE SPONSORSHIP OF THE 2026 MIAMI BEACH PRIDE FESTIVAL, TAKING PLACE FROM APRIL 10, 2026 THROUGH APRIL 12, 2026, WHICH INCLUDES (1) A CASH SPONSORSHIP IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $250,000, AS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION IN THE FY 2026 OPERATING BUDGET, AND (2) A WAIVER OF SPECIAL EVENT PERMITTING FEES, POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES, FIRE ADMINISTRATIVE FEES AND SANITATION FEES, IN THE APPROXIMATE AMOUNT OF $53,159; AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO NEGOTIATE AND FINALIZE A SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT WITH THE EVENT ORGANIZER, MIAMI BEACH GAY PRIDE, INC.; AND FURTHER, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE THE FINAL SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Pride Festival (the "Event") brings people together to recognize and celebrate members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender ("LGBTQ") community, as well as their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the LGBTQ community; and WHEREAS, Miami Beach Gay Pride, Inc. ("Event Organizer") celebrates Miami -Dade County's LGBTQ community with week-long festivities along Ocean Drive and draws big crowds; and WHEREAS, in 2025, the Event drew over 185,000 attendees; and WHEREAS, since 2009, the Event has taken place in the Lummus Park spoil area, between 10th and 14th streets, with the parade taking place on Ocean Drive from 511 to 1511 streets on the last day of the Event; and WHEREAS, on February 5, 2025, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2025- 33465, authorizing a cash sponsorship in the amount not to exceed $250,000 and a waiver of special event and City Service fees for the 2025 Event; and WHEREAS, on September 30, 2025, the Mayor and City Commission adopted the FY 2026 budget that included the requested funding for the 2026 Event in the Resort Tax Fund; and WHEREAS, the 2026 Event is presented by Event Organizer in partnership with the City, and is scheduled to take place primarily in Lummus Park from 10th to 14th streets and Ocean Drive from 5th to 151h streets on April 10-12, 2026; and WHEREAS, for the 2026 Event, the City wishes to provide a cash sponsorship in an amount not to exceed $250,000 to Event Organizer, as previously approved by the City Commission in the FY 2026 Operating Budget; and WHEREAS, furthermore, for the 2026 Event, the City wishes to waive special event and City services fees in the approximate amount of $53,159, which includes a special event application fee of $343, special event permit fee in the amount of $682, Lummus Park user fees in the approximate amount of $10,518, Vehicle Beach Access passes in the approximate amount of $4,160, square footage fees in the approximate amount of $29,200, Police Department Administrative fees in the approximate amount of $1,336, Fire Department Administrative fees in the approximate amount of $1,600, and sanitation fees in the amount of $5,320. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve the sponsorship of the 2026 MIAMI BEACH PRIDE FESTIVAL, taking place from April 10, 2026 through April 12, 2026, which includes (1) a cash sponsorship in an amount not to exceed $250,000, as previously approved by the City Commission in the FY 2026 operating budget, and (2) a waiver of special event permitting fees, police administrative fees, fire administrative fees and sanitation fees, in the approximate amount of $53,159; authorize the Administration to negotiate and finalize a Sponsorship Agreement with the event organizer, Miami Beach Gay Pride, Inc.; and further, authorize the City Manager and City Clerk to execute the final Sponsorship Agreement. ANALYSIS The 2026 Miami Beach Gay Pride event is presented by Miami Beach Gay Pride Inc. in partnership with the City of Miami Beach. The event is scheduled to take place primarily in Lummus Park from 10 to 14" streets and Ocean Drive from 5"' to 15 streets on April 10- 12, 2026. The Mayor and City Commission has traditionally sponsored this annual event. On February 3, 2025. the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2025-33465 authorizing a cash sponsorship in the amount not to exceed $250.000 and a waiver of special event and City Service fees for the 2025 event. 485 of 1589 For the upcoming 2026 Miami Beach Gay Pride event. the Mayor and City Commission wish to authorize a cash sponsorship in an amount not to exceed $250.000, as previously approved by the City Commission in the FY 2026 Operating Budget. Every year this event is free and open to residents and visitors. 2026 event details are as follows April 11, 2026, 12:OOPM Pride Festival Day 1 Lummus Park, Between 10th and 14th Streets Lummus Park (Spoil), Between 10th and 14th Streets April 12, 2026, 12:OOPM Pride Festival Day 1 and Parade Lummus Park, Between 10th and 14th Streets Lummus Park (Spoil).
