HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34140RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34140 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE LIGHTING OF CITY HALL PURPLE DURING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH IN MARCH 2026, AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO IMPLEMENT A STUDENT SHADOWING PROGRAM WITH WOMEN LEADERS AT CITY HALL DURING WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH IN MARCH 2O26, AND ENCOURAGING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR SUSTAINING ANNUAL RECOGNITION OF WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH, INCLUDING SIMILAR INITIATIVES IN FUTURE YEARS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach celebrates Women's History Month each March to honor the achievements and contributions of women in shaping our community and society; and WHEREAS, Women's History Month originated as a national celebration in 1987 following a congressional resolution, and it continues to recognize the vital role women have played in American history and society; and WHEREAS, the City Commission seeks to visibly demonstrate its commitment to gender equity and recognition of women leaders by lighting City Hall purple throughout March 2026, except during the designated Multiple Sclerosis Awareness period as referenced in Resolution No. 2026-34085 brought by Commissioner Dominguez and adopted on February 5, 2026; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to complement this symbolic gesture with an educational initiative by inviting students to shadow women leaders at City Hall during Women's History Month in March 2026, thereby fostering mentorship, civic engagement, and leadership development among future generations; and WHEREAS, these actions align with the City's values of inclusion, empowerment, and community engagement, and will further enhance the observance of Women's History Month in Miami Beach. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve the lighting of City Hall purple during Women's History Month in March 2026, authorize and direct the City Administration to implement a student shadowing program with women leaders at City Hall during Women's History Month in March 2026, and further encourage the City Administration to develop a plan for sustaining annual recognition of Women's History Month, including similar initiatives in future years.
