HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34144RESOLUTION NO. 2026-34144 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO WORK WITH ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC PARISH AND THE SPONSOR OF THIS ITEM TO APPLY TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA HISTORICAL MARKER REVIEW COUNCIL FOR THE DESIGNATION AND INSTALLATION OF A STATE HISTORICAL MARKER COMMEMORATING THE 100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC PARISH. WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Catholic Parish, located in Miami Beach, Florida, was established in 1926 as the first Catholic parish in Miami Beach, and has served as a cornerstone of faith, community, and cultural heritage for 100 years; and WHEREAS, the Parish has played a significant role in the spiritual and social life of Miami Beach residents, hosting countless religious services, charitable initiatives, and community events that have shaped the city's history; and WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Catholic Parish is celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2026, marking a century of continuous service and historical significance; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida Historical Marker Program recognizes sites of historical and cultural importance, and the designation of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish as a historical site would honor its enduring contributions to the City of Miami Beach and the State of Florida; and WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the design, fabrication, and installation of the historical marker is approximately $3,145, and the funds for this purpose must be identified and/or allocated at a later date; and WHEREAS, the placement of the marker may be subject to review and approval by the Design Review Board (DRB); and WHEREAS, the approval of the Mayor and City Commission will also be required before installation; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to commemorate this milestone by applying to the State of Florida Historical Marker Review Council for the installation of a historical marker at or near St. Patrick's Catholic Parish; and WHEREAS, the City Administration will collaborate with St. Patrick's Catholic Parish and the sponsor of this item to prepare and submit the necessary application and supporting documentation to the State of Florida Historical Marker Review Council; and WHEREAS, the adoption of this resolution is intended solely to authorize the application process and does not oblige the city to proceed with the fabrication, installation, or funding of the marker. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby direct the City Administration to work with St. Patrick's Catholic Parish and the sponsor of this item to apply to the State of Florida Historical Marker Review Council for the designation and installation of a state historical marker commemorating the 100-year anniversary of St. Patrick's Catholic Parish.
