HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2026-34186RESOLUTION NO. 2026.34186 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING, ON A FIVE -SEVENTHS (5/7THS) VOTE, AFTER HOLDING A DULY NOTICED PUBLIC HEARING, THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE ("PSNQLC"), TO INSTALL A COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE ADJACENT TO THE ART DECO RAINBOW CROSSWALK REPLICA AT LUMMUS PARK IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, at the December 17, 2025 City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City Commission referred a discussion to the to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee ("PSNQLC"), at the request of Commissioner Alex Fernandez, to discussttake action regarding installing a commemorative plaque for the (then) contemplated Art Deco rainbow crosswalk at Lummus Park in the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, at the February 5, 2026 City Commission meeting, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2026-34115, directing the City Administration to allocate funding, in an amount not to exceed $120,000 from the 2025 year-end surplus, for the design and installation in Lummus Park of a replica of the City's rainbow crosswalk, utilizing pavers salvaged from the much -beloved rainbow crosswalk in the Art Deco District removed by the Florida Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS, at the February 19 meeting of the PSNQLC, the Committee approved a recommendation to the Mayor and City Commission to install a commemorative plaque adjacent to the Art Deco rainbow crosswalk replica at Lummus Park; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is required by City Code Sec. 82-504(a)(6) to hold a public hearing, with at least ten days prior notice, to approve the installation of a commemorative plaque; and WHEREAS, after holding a duly noticed public hearing, the Mayor and City Commission desire to accept the recommendation of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee ("PSNQLC"), to approve the installation of a commemorative plaque adjacent to the Art Deco rainbow crosswalk replica at Lummus Park. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby accept, on a five -sevenths (5/7ths) vote, after holding a duly noticed public hearing, the recommendation of the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee ("PSNQLC"), to install a commemorative plaque adjacent to the Art Deco rainbow crosswalk replica at Lummus Park in the City of Miami Beach.
