A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO
AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2026 BUDGET IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY FUNDING,
IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $15,000, FOR THE PURCHASE AND
INSTALLATION OF FORTY-EIGHT (48) FLAGS REPRESENTING THE
COUNTRIES PARTICIPATING IN THE 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP, TO BE
INSTALLED IN LUMMUS PARK IN PROXIMITY TO THE MIAMI BEACH
"BLOCK LETTERED" SIGN.
WHEREAS, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be one of the largest international sporting
events ever hosted in the United States and is expected to attract millions of visitors to the United
States and hundreds of thousands of visitors to South Florida; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach ("City') anticipates significant international tourism
associated with the tournament and seeks to celebrate the global spirit of the event while
welcoming visitors from participating nations; and
WHEREAS, the influx of visitors, including many international visitors, associated with the
2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to significantly increase tourism activity throughout the City and
South Florida; and
WHEREAS, this increased tourism activity is anticipated to result in higher hotel
occupancy rates, boost restaurant and shop patronage, and enhance other visitor spending that
supports the City and the local economy; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to create a visually vibrant and
welcoming display recognizing the forty-eight (48) countries participating in the tournament
through the installation of their national flags; and
WHEREAS, the display of forty-eight (48) national flags in Lummus Park will enhance the
public realm and provide an attractive and symbolic feature for residents and visitors during the
exciting 20226 FIFA World Cup tournament period; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to direct the City Administration to
amend the Fiscal Year 2026 budget to identify funding, in the approximate total amount of $12,000
- $15.000, for the purchase of forty-eight (48) T& flags, forty-eight (48) 6-foot flag poles, along
with any associated City installation and removal costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby direct the City
Administration to amend the Fiscal Year 2026 budget in order to identify funding, in an amount
not to exceed $15,000, for the purchase and installation of forty-eight (48) flags representing the
countries participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be installed in Lummus Park in proximity
to the Miami Beach "block lettered" sign.
