AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE MIAMI BEACH
CITY CODE, ENTITLED "ADMINISTRATION," BY AMENDING ARTICLE III,
ENTITLED "AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMITTEES," BY AMENDING
DIVISION 17, ENTITLED "CITY OF MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION FOR
WOMEN," BY AMENDING SECTION 2.190.4 THEREOF, ENTITLED
"COMPOSITION," TO MODIFY THE TOTAL NUMBER OF MEMBERS WHO
SERVE ON THE COMMISSION FOR WOMEN AND MODIFY THE NUMBER OF
MEMBERS WHO MAY BE APPOINTED BY EACH MEMBER OF THE CITY
COMMISSION; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEALER, SEVERABILITY,
CODIFICATION AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Commission for Women was created by Ordinance
No. 97-3086 of the Mayor and City Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Commission for Women currently consists of 21 members, with each of
the seven members of the City Commission appointing three members to the Commission for
Women; and
WHEREAS, at its October 16, 2025 meeting, the Commission for Women approved a
recommendation to the City Commission to reduce the size of the Commission for Women from
three to two appointees per member of the City Commission, for a total size of 14 members; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to amend Chapter 2, Article III of the
Code to reduce the number of members to 14 to implement the Commission for Women's
recommendation; and
WHEREAS, all members of the Commission for Women who were appointed prior to the
effective date of this Ordinance shall continue to serve the remainder of their current,
duly -appointed terms; and
WHEREAS, from and after the effective date of this Ordinance, no appointment shall be
made by any Commissioner if that appointment would result in more than two (2) seated
appointees for that Commissioner at any given time; and vacancies created by the expiration of
a term, resignation, or other lawful cause of the third seated appointee of any Commissioner will
not be filled.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Section 2-190.4 of Chapter 2 of the Miami Beach City Code is hereby amended
to state as follows:

ADMINISTRATION
ARTICLE III. AGENCIES, BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
DIVISION 17. CITY OF MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION FOR WOMEN
Sec. 2-190.4. Composition.
The City of Miami Beach Commission for Women shall consist of 14 23 members. Each of the
seven members of the city commission shall appoint two three members to the body. Tke

SECTION 3. REPEALER.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. SEVERABILITY.
If any section, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance is held to be invalid or
unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, then said holding shall in no way affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance.
SECTION 5. CODIFICATION.
It is the intention of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, and it is
hereby ordained that the provisions of this ordinance shall become and be made a part of the
Code of the City of Miami Beach, Florida. The sections of this ordinance may be renumbered or
re -lettered to accomplish such intention, and the word 'ordinance" may be changed to "section,"
"article," or other appropriate word.
SECTION 6. EFFECTIVE DATE.
This Ordinance shall take effect ten days following adoption.

The attached Ordinance was prepared at the request of Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt.
The Mayor and City Commission created the City of Miami Beach Commission on the Status of
Women pursuant to Ordinance No. 97-3086, which was subsequently renamed as the
Commission for Women pursuant to Ordinance No. 2007-3570. The Commission for Women is
currently comprised of 21 members, with each member of the City Commission appointing three
members as direct appointees.
At its October 16, 2025 meeting, the Commission for Women voted by acclamation to recommend
that the City Commission reduce the size of the Commission for Women from three to two
appointees per member of the City Commission, for a total size of 14 members. The Commission
for Women would reach its new size of 14 members by attrition.
ANALYSIS
The attached Ordinance is presented on First Reading by the sponsor, Commissioner Tanya K.
Bhatt, for the consideration of the Mayor and City Commission.
The Ordinance amends Section 2-190.4 of the City Code to reduce the number of direct
appointees per member of the City Commission from three to two and would reduce the total size
of the Commission for Women from 21 to 14.
