As a globally recognized destination and host to major events, Miami Beach continues to invest in the quality and appearance of its public infrastructure. This corridor serves as a primary route for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic, supporting daily movement for residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the City. Given its high level of use and visibility, ongoing maintenance and resurfacing are necessary to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient conditions. With major international events, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup, it is important that this highly visible corridor reflects the City's standards for safety, accessibility, and overall presentation. This work is in response to the direction provided by City Commission in Resolution 2026-34167, which was approved at the March 18th, 2026 City Commission meeting. Beginning Monday, April 6, 2026, the City will initiate improvements to sidewalks, roadways, curbs, and gutters along this corridor. These enhancements are part of the City's ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, functional, and aesthetically appealing public spaces that support both daily use and large-scale events. Project Overview The work will be completed in phases, beginning with concrete repairs followed by asphalt resurfacing. Phase 1 will focus on repairing damaged concrete to improve mobility, ADA compliance, and pedestrian accessibility. Work will begin on the south side of 17 Street at Alton Road and proceed east toward Washington Avenue, block by block. Once completed, crews will shift to the north side of 17 Street, beginning at Washington Avenue and working west toward Alton Road. Phase 2 will consist of asphalt resurfacing and roadway striping, which will be completed in rolling sections following the concrete work. Construction activities are expected to last approximately two months, with each block requiring roughly two to three days for concrete work. Milling and resurfacing operations are expected to begin in subsequent sections starting April 20. Work hours will generally occur between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with any extended work hours subject to City approval and community notification.
