HomeMy WebLinkAboutLTC 168-2026 - Miami Beach Police Department Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR)MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER LTC# TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: LETTER TO COMMISSION ��City Commission { v\N\,>,._,, Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner an� Mi) Eric Carpenter, City Manager � � April 27, 2026 Miami Beach Police Department Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to inform the Mayor and City Commission of the Miami Beach Police Department's (MBPD) 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) event to be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 9:00 A.M. The LETR events statewide support Special Olympics Florida, the state's largest sports organization for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Law enforcement officers from more than 300 Florida agencies -including the Florida Highway Patrol, police departments, sheriff's offices, the Florida Department of Corrections, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement -participate in various Torch Runs throughout Florida to benefit Special Olympics athletes. MBPD's local LETR provides a unique opportunity for Miami Beach police officers and City staff to come together in a positive environment to support an incredible cause and make a meaningful difference in the lives of Special Olympics athletes. The run will start at MBPD Headquarters, located at 1100 Washington Avenue, proceed south on the Ocean Drive boardwalk to 5th Street, and then return to the station. Participant registration begins at 8:00 A.M. Participants and supporters can purchase a $25 Torch Run T-shirt to help create a strong "Sea of Awareness" as the Department runs through the city. The presence of the Mayor and Commission would be greatly appreciated as the Department continues its efforts to strengthen the bonds between law enforcement and the community they serve.
