Public Comment - 14th Street Bay Walk Railings (Audio/Visual)

Thank you , Commissioners, for placing this item on the agenda so promptly.
The recently installed railings on 14th Street have had several immediate and negative
impacts and thus urge you to immediately remove the baywalk railings and in support of
offers the following:
1 . Displacement of the Public
These railings force residents and visitors to leave public space and instead sit along
adjacent private properties' baywalks, as shown in the attached photos taken on
May 14, just one day after installation . Notably, The Waverly bay walk is now
occupied while the public fenced area remains empty.
2 . Visual Impact
The railings are an eyesore that detract from what is otherwise a world - class
waterfront view on public property.
3. Lack of Purpose
The original concern , derelict boats, has already been resolved . With those boats
removed , the railings no longer serve their intended purpose.
4. Ineffectiveness
Even if boats were to return , individuals would simply relocate and dock in front of
nearby properties along the bay walk (such as The Waverly and Flamingo. ) The
railings do not solve the underlying issue.
On behalf of the residents and Board of Directors of The Waverly, we strongly urge you to
adopt the proposed resolution and immediately remove the railings on 14th Street.
Please do not allow this to become a prolonged , multi-year process. Swift action is
essential to prevent this from becoming the new normal, where residents are displaced
from public space and forced to seek access elsewhere simplyto enjoy the sunset.
