2026 MB Summer Shadowing Program
This Letter to Commission provides an update on the Administration's plan to launch a one-weekSummer Shadowing Pilot Program for summer 2026. The program will run from August 3-7,
between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and will allow participating students to shadow City staff for
either a single day or the full week while earning community service hours towards high school
graduation requirements.
The initiative will give students firsthand exposure to a wide range of municipal functions, includingpolicy development, public safety, legal services, planning, finance, public works, and other areasof city government. Its goal is to encourage interest in public service careers and help cultivatefuture civic leaders.
Students entering 11th or 12th grade may register using the provided QR code and must submit a
parent or guardian-signed waiver.
The Education and Performance Initiatives Division will match students with City employees fortheir shadowing experience.
This pilot program aligns with the City's strategic priority of promoting educational excellence(PreK-12). Questions may be directed to Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Education and PerformanceOfficer.
