The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC)is to inform the Mayor &City Commission of two
recent motions passed by the Police/Citizens Relations Committee at their June 10,2026
meeting.
STATEMENT
The Police/Citizens Relations Committee (PCRC)has concerns with the proposed 5%budget
reduction requested by the Administration for the Miami Beach Police Department.At a time when
the department has finally achieved full staffing levels after years of recruitment and retention
challenges,reducing funding would be counterproductive and could jeopardize the progress that
has been made.
The PCRC believes that public safety must remain the City's highest priority.Maintaining adequate
staffing,training,equipment,and proactive policing efforts is essential to preserving the quality of
life enjoyed by residents,businesses,and visitors alike.
Miami Beach is a global,world-class destination and has earned a reputation as a safe,law-and-
order community. Implementing budget cuts to the Police Department at this critical juncture risks
undermining that success and could negatively impact the department's ability to effectively
respond to public safety needs.
For these reasons,the PCRC respectfully urges the Mayor and City Commission to exempt the
Miami Beach Police Department from the proposed 5%budget reduction and continue investing
in the resources necessary to keep Miami Beach safe.
