SUBJECT: LGBTQIA+Advisory Committee Motion --May 12,2026
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC)is to update the Mayor and Commission on a
motion made during the May 12,2026,LGBTQIA+Advisory Committee Meeting.
Motion:
The LGBTQIA+Advisory Committee recommends that the Mayor and City Commission
consider naming a street after Michael Tilson Thomas recognizing his extraordinary impact on
the arts and culture scene in Miami Beach.As the Co-Founder and longtime Artistic Director of
the New World Symphony,he brought incredible talent and attention to our community.He
was also a proud member of the LGBTQIA+community.The Committee feels that naming a
street in his honor would be a meaningful way to recognize everything he brought to Miami
Beach.
Motion was made by Paul Thomas,seconded by Laurence Moser and was passed
unanimously.
