MIAMI BEACH
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
LTC #283-2026 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Honorable Mayor Steven Meiner and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Eric Carpenter, City Manager £Jue._
DATE: June 29, 2026
SUBJECT: Notice of MBFD Deployment to Florida Task Force 2 (Earthquake in Venezuela)
This Letter to Commission (L TC) serves to formally notify the Mayor and members of the City Commission that three firefighters from the Miami Beach Fire Department have been deployed to Venezuela to support international urban search and rescue operations following the devastating earthquakes earlier this week.
Our personnel are operating under a federal deployment as part of Florida Task Force 2, a national resource sponsored and administratively managed by the City of Miami Fire Department. For this activation, the task force mobilized an elite 80-member team drawn from 28
public safety agencies stretching from Miami-Dade to Palm Beach County. In all, the task force
maintains a readiness roster of 230 members including physicians, structural engineers,
hazardous material technicians, and K-9 handlers and has deployed specialized K-9 units trained
specifically to sniff out signs of life.
This international, federally funded deployment will not impact local service. Shift coverage has
been seamlessly adjusted, ensuring that response times and daily staffing levels within the City
of Miami Beach remain fully maintained.
The bravery of these individuals to answer this urgent call underscores the world-class caliber of the Miami Beach Fire Department. The Commission will be kept updated on their safety and
eventual return.
Thank ritial
