CAPTAIN REID~ GRADUATION FROM THE SENIOR MANAGEMENT
INSTITUTE FOR POLICE
This Letter to the City Commission is to advise the Mayor and Commissioners that Captain
Dan Reid has graduated from the June 2004 session of the Senior Management Institute
for Police (SMIP).
The Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), a program of the Police Executive
Research Forum (PERF), provides police executives intensive training in the latest
management concepts and practices used in business and government. It is a demanding
three-week Management Development course and is taught primarily by faculty from the
John K. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. SMIP brings together
leading thinkers in corporate and public management to provide intensive training in the
best available management theory and practice, innovative solutions to organizational
problems, and discussion of important issues in managing public service organizations
effectively. Participants emerge with an understanding of advanced management
practices and effective methods of organization, and enhanced awareness of the
management methods and resources necessary for performing current or future
responsibilities.
Captain Reid is a twenty-two year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department and
currently commands the Third Platoon (afternoon shift)of the Patrol Division. Please join
me in congratulating Captain Reid on his graduation from the June 2004 Session of the
Senior Management Institute for Police and we all wish him continued success.
