Miami-Dade County Request To Change The Election Runoff Date From
Two (2) Weeks to Four (4) Weeks
To:
Subject:
In an email datedJuly19.Ms. Constance Kaplan, Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Election has
notified the City of Miami Beach that although she would prefer more time between the general
election and the runoff election, she is no longer pursuing the four (4) week timeframe and is leaving
it up to the municipalities to consider their needs for absentee ballots, early voting, etc.
According to Ms. Kaplan the Cities of Miami Lakes, Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Aventura insist on
a two (2) week runoff period. The City of Miami Commission is scheduled at their July 22 meeting to
discuss a proposed charter amendment that would change the time between the City's primary and
runoff elections from one (1) week to two (2) weeks.
Unless instructed to do otherwise, the Administration will take no further action.
