UPDATE ON THE CITY'S WAYFINDING SlGNAGE PROJECT
The purpose of this LTC is to provide an update regarding the City's wayfinding signage
project. The City's consultant has made great progress since our last series of
stakeholder meetings on the design and programming of the wayfinding signage project.
You are invited to attend one of two public preview presentations of the proposed signage
designs and sign locations. Both presentations will be held on Monday, August 16, 2004,
one beginning at 4:00 p.m. and the second beginning at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will be
held in the Mayor's Conference Room. There will be a brief slide presentation by the
consultant, followed by a question and answer session.
A copy of the design is available online via the City's website at:
http:l/www.miamibeachfl.govlnewcity/presslpressO4/signage_designs.pdf
The proposed sign designs will be presented for final approval bythe Design Review Board
and the Historic Preservation Board at a public hearing on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at
8:30 a.m. in the Commission Chambers.
If the design package is approved by the DRB/HPB, we expect the consultant to begin
preparation of the final bid documents for Phase 1. The bid process could be underway by
the end of the year and signs could be installed in the Winter/Spring of 2005. The City has
identified funding to cover the cost of sign fabrication and installation for Phase 1, which
includes all directional signs for vehicles, parking signs and gateway signs for the Harding
Avenue entrance and the Venetian Causeway entrance. Future phases will include the
MacArthur Causeway gateway sign, pedestrian signs, street name signs and special
district signs or banners.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, please feel free to let me
know.
