"Best Summertime Chill," and more...
The Scoff Rakow Youth Center has been named the "Best Summertime Chill"by Miami
New Times magazine. The highly read tabloid cited the SRYC for its "excellence in summer
camp programming" and activities for Miami Beach residents and visitors.
Camp Fiesta, Inc. gave the Scott Rakow Youth Center a plaque in appreciation for
hosting youth with disabilities during our just completed summer camp 2004. Camp Fiesta,
Inc. said SRYC staff had expressed both "kindness and hospitalib/to these special kids.
More than 250 Summer Campers that received Bonus Points earned the right to go on an
"Honor Trip" to Orlando. Among the 179 4th- 6th graders on the Junior Honor Trip, "Return
of the Mummy" was the #1 ride. The 75 7th- 12~h graders in the Teen Honor Trip ranked
"The Hulk" as their top choice.
The Seahawks Swim Team swept 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in their classes at the recent
Florida Gold Coast Speedo Junior Olympics-Long Course. The event was held July 29 -
August 1,2004 at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center.
Summer campers at the Scott Rakow Youth Center recently received some home
improvement instruction. Home Depot brought 120 outdoor projects to the SRYC where
the kids worked on them under the shade of the outdoor patio.
The end of summer camp means the start of school is near. The North Shore Park &
Youth Center will host Back To School Dance Friday, 6-9 p.m. August 20, 2004.
Parks & Recreation campers got a close-up look at the Miami Heat Thursday August 12,
2004 during a basketball clinic at the at Flamingo Park basketball courts. Wally ~ones led
the program. Miami Heat Dancers gave away autographed posters _~ ~
