It is my pleasure to announce that Jorge Gomez has accepted my offer to become the Planning
Director for the City of Miami Beach.
While Jorge is assuming a new position, he is very familiar with our Planning Department, having
worked there in several capacities since he joined the City in 1981.
His steady ascension through the ranks to become Planning and Zoning Manager, has involved
participation in the drafting of policies and guidelines of intricate detail and vital importance for the
City, The creation of height restrictions, reduction offioor area ratios, and changes to zoning and
future Land Use maps to create compatible development with the existing neighborhood character,
are only a few of the issues Mr. Gomez has effectively tackled. As the attached resume illustrates,
Mr. Gomez' inclusive background, extensive knowledge, and historical perspective of our City's
planning challenges amply qualify him to assume the position of Planning Director upon the
departure of incumbent Dean Grandin.

preparations of staff reports to the Planning Board, Design Review Board and Historic Preservation Board.
General analysis work on the selection of the Convention Center Hotel R.F.P. including socio-economic
and land use issues. Coordinate the City's Comprehensive Plan Amendment process. Assist and advise in
the preparation of the Division's budget. Supervise and coordinate the work of support staff. Since April
1991, appointed as Trustee of the Unclassified Employees and Elected Officials Retirement System.
