SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORI DA, AMENDING MIAMI BEACH CITY CODE CHAPTER 45,
SECTION 45-20-2 TO INCREASE THE SANITARY SEWER SERVICE
CHARGE IMPOSED BY THE CITY FROM ONE DOLLAR TWENTY FOUR
CENTS ($1 . 24) PER THOUSAND GALLONS TO ONE DOLLAR AND
FIFTY ONE CENTS ($1.51) PER THOUSAND GALLONS, EFFECTIVE
OCTOBER 1, 1992.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve an
ordinance amending Chapter 45, section 45-20-2 to increase the
Sanitary Sewer Service charge imposed by the City upon all premises
connected to or using the city's Sanitary Sewer System from One
Dollar and twenty four cents ($1.24) per thousand gallons to One
Dollar and fifty one cents ($1.51) per thousand gallons, effective
October 3, 1992.
BACKGROUND
On July 20, 1992, the City of Miami Beach was notified by Miami
Dade Water and Sewer Authority that the volume sewer customer rates
would be increased by 21.4% effective October 1, 1992. In
anticipation of this rate increase and in order to coincide the
pass thru increase to avoid any loss to the City, it is recommended
that this ordinance be approved to be effective October 3, 1992.
The reason for the two day delay is to coincide with our billing
schedule. The October 1st effective date would require reading all
of the water meters in the entire community twice in a two day
period.
ANALYSIS
The City of Miami Beach, as a volume user customer, is subject to
periodic rate increases in accordance with the contract with the
Miami Dade Water and Sewer Authority. In order for the City to
recover the increases, they are passed thru to the retail users.
The proposed increase will affect the average household
approximately Two Dollars and eight cents ($2.08) per month.
