Miami Dade Co nty Library Branch Relocations
Subject:
On December 6, 2004, the new Regional Library facility located at 245 22nd Street was
officially turned over to the Miami-Dade County Library System. Following shortly
thereafter, on December 28, 2004, the new 5,000 square foot space for the South Shore
Branch Library, located in the Courts at South Beach, at 131 Alton Road, received its
Certificate of Occupancy (CO) and was turned over to the Library System during the first
week of January, 2005.
The Library System has advised that the target date to open the new Regional Library is
March 1, 2005. A grand opening event is being planned for the beginning of April, which
will provide adequate time to address any operational related issues typically associated
with the opening of a new library facility. Books and reference materials from the old
facility at 2100 Collins Avenue, will be packaged and transferred to the new facility during
the middle of February.
Plans for the South Shore Branch Library call for the existing location at 225 Washington
Avenue, to close its doors on February 5, 2005 and to remain closed for two weeks. It will
reopen at its new location in the Courts at South Beach on February 22, 2005. It should be
noted that the new facility is triple in size from the existing location and will feature a new
children's area, an expanded book collection and additional computer terminals.
