RESOLUTION NO. 97-22555
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CALLING A PUBLIC
HEARING FOR WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3,1997 AT 10:15AM,
REGARDING THE PROPOSED USES OF LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department has applied for and was
awarded grant funds in the amount of $408,066.00 under the "Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant" Program; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission authorized the filing of an application for
the grant funds at its regular meeting on July 2, 1997; and
WHEREAS, the grant application requires that at least one public hearing be held
regarding the proposed use of Block Grant Funds prior to the obligation of any funds received;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed use of the Block Grant funds is shown in the attached
Exhibit "A".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing regarding
the proposed use of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds is hereby scheduled on
Wednesday, December 3, 1997 at 10:15 a.m., in the City Commission Chambers at 1700
Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida, and the City Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to publish and distribute the appropriate public notice of said public hearing at which
time and place all interested parties will be heard.

OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING
REGA~DING THE PROPOSED USES OF LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT
BLOCK GRANT FUNDS.
ADMINISTRA TION RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The City of Miami Beach Police Department, through the Office of the City Manager
applied for grant funds to the United States Department of Justice under the "Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant" Program.
The Mayor and City Commission approved the application at the regular meeting of July
2, 1997 (Resolution No. 97-22448).
The City was notified that the funds have been awarded for $408,066.00. The City will
provide matching funds for $45,295.00 from the Police Confiscations Account for a total
project budget of $453,361.00. This is the second year the Police Department has received
these funds.
One requirement of the grant is that the local unit of government hold at least one public
hearing on the proposed use of the Block Grant funds before the obligation of any funds
received.
The Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 1997 at 10:15 a.m.

The proposed use of these funds, as set forth in the attached list, has the approval of the
Administration and was also endorsed by the Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council on
August 22, 1997.
CONCLUSION
The Public Hearing will provide the public the opportunity to comment on the proposed use
of the Block Grant Funds and meet the requirement for a public hearing.
