Home My WebLink About2005-25810 ResoRESOLUTION NO. 2005-25810 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY MAYOR CARLOS ALVAREZ TO VETO COUNTY RESOLUTION R- 120-05 WHICH APPROVED AN AMENDMENT TO THE PEOPLE'S TRANSPORTATION PLAN (PTP) TO INCLUDE THE USE OF CHARTER COUNTY TRANSIT SYSTEM SURTAX FUNDS FOR EXISTING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TRANSIT DEBT SERVICE FOR HSCAL YEARS 2001- 2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005, AND FOR SUBSEQUENT FISCAL YEARS, AND URGING THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES TO SUPPORT THE VETO OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY RESOLUTION R-120-05. WHEREAS, on Thursday, January 27 2005, the Miami-Dade County Commission voted 7-6 to ratify County Manager George Burgess' plan to use $143 million from the half-cent transportation surtax to cover operating shortfalls and deficits in the Miami-Dade Transit System; and WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County Resolution No. R-120-05 approved an amendment to the People's Transportation Plan (PTP) to include the use of surtax funds for debt service on capital improvements which is inconsistent with representations made to voters in Miami-Dade County that the surtax monies would go toward new capital projects and not for operating expenses of the Transit Authority; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach deem it in the best interest of the public to urge Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez to veto County Resolution R-20-05, and to also urge the Miami-Dade County League of Cities to support the veto of County Resolution R-120-05.
