From:
This letter is to address concerns about the cleanliness ofthe ocean water at 29th street.
The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) monitors Miami Beach at four locations; North Shore
Ocean Terrace, 53rd street, Collins Park at 21st street, and South Beach Park. At each site FDOH
collects weekly samples and monitors the beach for both fecal Coliform and ectroccus bacteria.
High concentrations of these bacteria may indicate the presence of microorganisms that could
cause disease, infections, or rashes. County health departments will issue health advisories or
warnings when these conditions are confirmed.
The sampling period from 3/7/05 to 3/14/05 located at 21st street indicated that there were no
warnings issued and that water quality levels were considered "good". In addition, on March 11,
2005, the Environmental Manager of the City of Miami Beach checked the site for any possible
contamination or pollution; nothing was found to be abnormal. Please see attached photos taken on
March 11 , 2005 at 29th street. The Environmental Resources Management Division will continue to
