This is to inform you that the Florida Department of Transportation (FOOT) will start on
Monday, April 4, 2005 the milling and resurfacing and restripping of the existing Collins
Avenue roadway between 44th and 63rd Streets. The project is expected to be completed
in approximately four months at an estimated cost of $1.9 million.
At the City's request, FOOT will conduct a public information meeting at the North Shore
Park Youth Center at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. A fact sheet is a attached with
additional project information.

FACT SHEET
This April, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a Roadway Improvement
Project along State Road AlA (also known as Collins Avenue) between 44th Street and 63rd Street,
including Indian Creek Drive and the northbound Frontage Road. The project is expected to last
approximately 4 months and cost an estimated $1.9 million. The intent of this proj ect is to extend the
life of the roadway as well as improve rideability and safety.
Scone of Work:
. Repaving & re-striping the existing roadway
. Modifying medians to improve safety in accordance with Access Management standards
. Replacing existing pedestrian ramps and crosswalks to comply with current Americans with
Disability (ADA) standards
Construction Cost & Schedule:
This project will begin on or around April 4th and last approximately 4 months. Work will be
performed during daytime hours (7:30 AM to 8:30 PM), Monday through Saturday. The contractor
will perform work in the medians and sidewalk areas before repaving and re-striping the roadway
toward the end ofthe project.
Maintenance of Traffic:
Project-related work requires closing travel lanes to perform work in the median as well as to repave
and re-stripe the roadway. Lane closures are restricted to non-peak daytime hours only (9 AM to 3 :30
PM). Please note that there will be at least one lane open in each direction for the duration of this work.
Motorists should anticipate delays when traveling through the area. Speed limits in and around the
work zones may be reduced for safety purposes. Motorists are advised to drive the posted speed limit
and obey all traffic signs while driving through the area.
Pedestrian & Bicvcle Safety:
Portions of the sidewalk will be closed while the contractor reconstructs crosswalks within the project
area. Pedestrians and Bicyclists are advised to use caution and stay away from any construction area.
Hurricane Prenaredness:
This project will be performed during Hurricane Season. The contractor has provided the Department
with a Hurricane Preparedness Plan that details steps to be taken to make sure that the project area is
safe in the event of a Hurricane. Should a hurricane or other event make evacuation necessary, the
contractors will clear the roadway and reopen lanes to facilitate these efforts.

Payin!! Operations:
Repaving and re-striping of the roadway is scheduled for the final phase of construction. During
paving operations, there will be heavy equipment and project personnel working around the project
area and the lane closures associated with this work will periodically shift, as required, to protect both
motorists and workers during this moving operation.
Resident & Business Impacts:
Access to area businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Should it become necessary to
close an individual driveway to perform project-related work, property owners, business owners and
residents will be notified in advance.
On-Street Parkin!!
There will be intermittent impacts to on-street parking during this project. Residents and businesses
adjacent to areas where on-street parking will be temporarily suspended will be notified at least 24-
hours in advance.
Impacts Durin!! Construction:
The Department strives to minimize all inconveniences associated with construction. However,
motorists, area businesses and residents may experience one or more of the following inconveniences
while improvements are underway:
. Increased dust
. Noise
. Lane closures
. Increased travel times through the project area
. Heavy machinery and equipment moving in and around the construction zone
. Flagmen directing motorists around construction activity
. Pedestrian detours and sidewalk closures

. Give yourself a little extra time to reach your destination
. Drive the posted speed limit - reduced speed limits are strictly enforced!
. Obey all signs posted within the construction zone
. Obey flagmen directing traffic around construction operations
