SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1999
FROM: Sergio Rodriguez
City Manager
On Sunday, October 24, 1999, the City of Miami Beach Community Relations Board and E-COMB
have organized" Bike Path Clean Up Day". The event involves approximately 50 volunteers who
will be picking up and bagging debris on the south side of the Julia Tuttle Causeway (East of Alton
Road, between Alton Road and the causeway bridge). This community path clean up is scheduled
from 9:00 am to 11 am. This effort is being supported by the Sanitation Department, Public Works,
Parks Department and the Howard Johnson Bayfront Hotel.
This will be a kick-off activity for the second annual "We Are Miami Beach" event program also
taking place on Sunday, October 24th. The Community Relations Board will be sponsoring "We
Are Miami Beach", a community fair to be held at the 21st Street Community Center (2100
Washington Ave), from 12 noon - 4:00 pm. The event offers community awareness on civic and
social services offered throughout our city. Exhibitors include a cross section of multicultural
groups, charitable organizations, social service and governmental agencies that provide services to
Miami Beach. Care Resource, South Florida's primary AIDS service organization, will have their
mobile testing van on site, providing free anonymous testing for HIV.
Underwriting for "We Are Miami Beach" is provided in full by APP Pharmacy, City National
Bank, Dade Human Rights Foundation, Dupont, Esslinger-Wooten-Maxwell, JB Hanauer, Mango's
Tropical Cafe, Mellon United National Bank, Miami Beach Community Development Corp.
Southgate Towers, and Washington Mutual.
Entertainment and refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public.
