RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, AMENDING THE CITY'S 2005 STATE
LEGISLATIVE AGENDA TO INCLUDE AN
AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 163, PART III,
FLORIDA STATUTES, ADDING FIRE RESCUE
SERVICES AS AN AUTHORIZED USE OF
REDEVELOPMENT TRUST FUND MONIES.
WHEREAS, Chapter 163, Part III, Florida Statutes, authorizes cities to create
Community Redevelopment Areas (CRA) to address slum and blight conditions; and
WHEREAS, there exist in the City of Miami Beach two CRAs; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 163.387 authorizes creation of a Redevelopment Trust Fund
and further specifies eligible uses for expenditures from said Trust Fund; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 163.387 authorizes the use of Trust Fund monies for
community policing innovations; and
WHEREAS, in addition to police services, fire rescue services are an integral
component of the public safety services provided by the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, enhanced public safety contributes to the successful revitalization
and redevelopment of blighted areas; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to amend Chapter 163.387 to include fire services as
an eligible use of Trust Fund monies.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City's 2005 State
Legislative Agenda is amended to include an amendment to Chapter 163, Florida
Statutes, adding Fire Rescue services as an authorized use of Redevelopment Trust
Fund monies.

AGENDA ITEM -
Please place on the April 20th, Commission agenda a discussion item regarding the efforts by the Fire Fighters
Union in conjunction with the City Administration to access redevelopment funds to enhance Fire Rescue
Services. This legislation would be similar to the one previously approved for funding Public Safety Services.
