Subject: "The Streets" Po 'rays Kids' Daily Challenges
North Shore Park Youth Center After-School and Teen Club program members will perform
the original work "The Streets" on the Youth Center stage Thursday, May 19, 2005, at
7:30 p.m. Recreation Supervisor Willie Priegues wrote the 14-scene play hoping to help
adults to better understand the daily challenges his two dozen 1 0-to-17 -year old students
face in their daily lives.
From:
"These are good kids, who are seldom what they appear to be at first glance," said
Priegues. "You have to get past the stereotypes to really appreciate what they're up
against and what they have to offer."
A 6-year Parks & Recreation employee and a winner of the 2002 "At Your Service" Award,
Priegues said he collaborated with the youth to write the show as a means of helping them
to create new ways to communicate with the adult world. This is an example of our on-
going commitment to enhance programs for our teens.
