A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT
REIMBURSEMENT OF ALL SALARY, BENEFITS AND OVERTIME COSTS
FOR THE ASSIGNMENT OF A POLICE OFFICER OF THE MIAMI BEACH
POLICE DEPARTMENT ASSIGNED TO THE SOUTH FLORIDA "IMPACT"
TASK FORCE FOR THE PERIOD BEGINNING OCTOBER 1,1997 AND
ENDING SEPTEMBER 30,1998.
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department participates with other Federal,
State and Local law enforcement agencies in the South Florida "Impact" Task Force; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department has assigned a Police Officer to
participate in the Task Force; and,
WHEREAS, the full salary, benefits and overtime costs of the Police Officer will be
reimbursed to the City by the South Florida "Impact" Task Force; and
WHEREAS, due to the nature of the investigative work involved, overtime costs
cannot be estimated but the actual costs of all overtime will be fully reimbursed to the City
for the period beginning October 1, 1997 and ending September 30, 1998.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that City is authorized to
receive reimbursement of the salary, benefits and overtime costs for the Miami Beach
Police Department Police Officer who is assigned to the South Florida "Impact" Task
Force for the period beginning October 1, 1997 and ending September 30, 1998.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION
Approve the Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The Miami Beach Police Department participates with other Federal, State and Local Law
Enforcement agencies in the South Florida Ilmpact" Task Force. This Task Force is a
multi-agency effort targeting money laundering and narcotics violations.
The Task Force will reimburse the City the full salary and benefits of a Police Officer for
the period beginning October 1, 1997 and ending September 30, 1998. In addition, the
Task Force will reimburse the City any overtime costs incurred by the Police Officer in the
performance of hislher duties. Due to the nature of the investigative work performed, they
cannot predict overtime expense~ however, the Task Force will fully reimburse the City for
any overtime costs.
ANAL YSIS
The assignment of a police officer to this Task Force enhances the ability of the Task
Force in its anti crime efforts with the expertise provided by our officer. Moreover, the City

benefits with Revenue Sharing of assets seized and forfeited. Last year, this participation
resulted in the Police Department working 20 criminal cases involving narcotics or money
laundering that originated in the City of Miami Beach. These cases resulted in the seizure
of more ttlan 700 kilos of cocaine and approximately $5 million. The entire Impact unit last
year seized more than $17 million and 9,000 kilos of cocaine.
Through asset sharing, the City is eligible to receive approximately 14% of the monies
seized as the cases are brought to court and the funds are forfeited to the government.
CONCLUSION
The citizens and the City will benefit from the participation of a member of the Miami Beach
Police Department in the South Florida Interagency Metropolitan Anti-Crime Task Force
