Levy, City Manager * FROM: SUBJECT: Colony Theater - Architect Selection Committee On December 7, 1999, the State of Florida, Department of Management Services (DMS) received 10 proposals in response to its Request for Qualification for Architectural Services for the Colony Theater. A matrix identifying the firms and their respective sub-consultants is included with this memorandum. The Selection Committee, jointly Chaired by Harold Barrand and Richard Arcuri ofDMS, met on December 17, 1999, to short-list the proposals. Using criteria established by DMS, the Committee ranked the proposals on the basis of the principal architects' experience and ability. A copy ofDMS's evaluation form is also included with this memorandum. A total of four firms were selected on the basis of their extensive theater/acoustical design experience, comparable projects and historic preservation experience. These firms include: RJ Heisenbottle Architects, Coral Gables, Fl. Neville & Associates, Coral Gables, Fl. Zeidler Roberts, West Palm Beach, Fl., and Robert G. Currie Partnership, Delray Beach, Fl. On January 18, 2000, beginning at 9:00 A.M., the short-listed firms will deliver oral presentations before the Committee. The presentations will be held at the Colony Theater. The firms will then be evaluated and ranked on the basis of their understanding of the project and their respective approach and methodology. The initial phase of the project calls for expanding the back stage and loading areas, bringing the facility into compliance with ADA requirements and adding new electrical and mechanical features, including but not limited to an elevator for moving heavy equipment, motorized winches, new energy-efficient lighting and climate-controlled instrument storage. The second phase of the project calls for erecting a sound-proof barrier between the lobby and audience areas and restoring the lobby, box office and exterior facade of the facility. ~ Upon conclusion of the presentations, the Committee will rank the proposals and submit their recommendations to the City Manager for approval and subsequent recommendation to the Mayor and City Commission.
