Gonzalez City Manager I/ INTERNATIONAEASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE (IACP) DRUG RECOGNITION EXPERTS - OFFICER ROBERT JENKINS This Letter to the Commission is to announce the election of Officer Robert Jenkins to the position of Third Vice Chair for the IACP's Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) Section. The primary purpose of the IACP DRE Section is to serve as a coordinating body among various DRE associations or chapters within states, to serve as a resource, and to respond to the views and needs of the membership. Drug recognition, as a growing profession in law enforcement, is an effective means of identifying and prosecuting drug-impaired drivers. The IACP DRE Section provides a unique opportunity for those professionals already associated with drug recognition to share common management, training, administrative, and practicing concerns. Issues such as the annual DRE training conference; re- certification training; continuing and advanced education; creative teaching techniques for instructors; product evaluations (pen lights, protective gloves, etc.); certification problems and solutions; and the development and sharing of databases are addressed by the DRE Section. DREs, the practitioners of drug influence recognition, and the program coordinators have an ongoing forum for discussion of needs and concerns through membership in the DRE Section.
