Summer Campers Experience "Retratos": Primers and juniors at North Shore Park
Youth Center, the Scott Rakow Youth Center and park other facilities took part in "2000
Years of Portraiture in Latin America" as a module of the world-renowned "Retratos"
exhibit visited their camps in August. While the main exhibit stopped at the Bass Museum
of Art as its only southern U.S. venue, a special van visited the parks where volunteer
teenagers from "Art-to-Work" dressed campers in period costumes and makeup before
making digital portraits of them. Children received copies of the portraits and some of the
photographs will become part of the Bass Museum exhibit. Please see the attached
photos.
Free "Dive-In Movie" Makes A Splash at Scott Rakow Youth Center: More than 150
adults and kids attended the first "Dive-In" movie as the "Movies in the Park" turned into
"Movie in the Pool" at the Scott Rakow Youth Center pool Saturday night, August 20,2005.
Several of the movie goers, most of them children, watched from the water as "Cody
Banks, Secret Agent 2" played. Many called it a "cool" way to watch a movie.
