EVALUATION COI~I~ITTEE ¥~ELATED TO REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) NO. 29-
04105 DRY CLEANING AND LAUNDERING SERVICES FOR CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
UNIFORMED EMPLOYEES.
The purpose of this LTC is to update the Mayor and City Commission on Request for Proposals
(RFP) No. 29-04/05 which seeks to determine if it is in the City's best economic interest to
award a contract for dry cleaning and laundering services for City of Miami Beach uniformed
employees in lieu of paying employees a cleaning allowance.
The City's contracts with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), International Association of Fire
Fighters (IAFF) and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees
(AFSCME), all contain a re-opener clause to discuss a cleaning/laundry service in lieu of paying
employees a cleaning allowance, which is currently required in the Communications Workers of
America (CWA), IAFF and FOP contracts.
The City may, at its sole and absolute discretion, reject any and all, or parts of any and all
proposals, including awarding a contract to cover any or all of the Unions; re-advertise the RFP;
postpone or cancel, at any time, the RFP process. Additionally, if it is determined that it is in the
City's best economic interest to pay its uniformed employees a dry cleaning/laundering
allowance, then the City may, reject all proposals received.
I am considering appointing the following individuals to serve on the Evaluation Committee on
the above subject RFP:
Mike Brady, Treasurer, IAFF
Floyd Jordan, Fire Chief
Robed. Jenkins, President, FOP
Elizabeth Judd, AFSCME Representative
Jason Loeb, Owner, Sudsies Dry Cleaners
Richard McKinnon, President, CW^
Willie Sanders, GSA Representative
Linda Gonzalez Verbit, Labor Relations Director
Thomas Weschler, Major, Police Support Services
I would appreciate your comments and/or suggestions by Monday, October 10, 2005.
Thank you.
