COMMISSION MEMORANDUM NO.
b-C1~
TO:
Mayor Neisen O. Kasdin and
Members of the City C mission
DATE: January 7,1998
FROM:
Sergio Rodriguez
City Manager
SUBJECT:
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA ACCEPTING A DONATION IN THE AMOUNT OF
$5,000 FROM PTG-FLORIDA, INC. AS A CONTRIBUTION TO THE
RECREATION, CULTURE AND PARKS DEPARTMENT'S LANDSCAPE
BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
Over the past several years the City of Miami Beach has significantly enhanced the beauty of its
neighborhoods, thoroughfares, parks, beaches and causeway entrances through the planting of trees and
palms, flowers and other plant materials. This impact can be easily seen in such areas as Alton Road, Collins
Avenue, the Julia Tuttle Causeway and various City parks.
In the past five years the City through its Recreation, Culture and Parks Department has planted in excess
of 7,000 trees and palms. A contributing factor to this beautification process has been the generosity of
various businesses and individuals to donate funds or materials to be planted in the City. In 1995, a program
was established to accept these donations, and to date it is estimated the program has received in excess of
$200,000 in value of trees, palms, other materials and cash contributions.
On November 19,1997, PTG-Florida Inc. offered a donation of$5,000 in support of the City's b~autification
efforts. The Recreation, Culture and Parks Department intends to expend the funds to purchase the landscape
materials necessary to renovate of the median located at 2800 Pinetree Drive in the Spring of 1998.
CONCLUSION:
The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission adopt the attached resolution,
accepting the contribution.
