HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-26045 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2005-26045 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RECOGNIZING GOVERNOR BUSH'S EXECUTIVE ORDER 05-219 AND SUBSEQUENT DECLARATION OF ELECTIONS EMERGENCY IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY DUE TO HURRICANE WILMA, AND AMENDING ALL ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE MIAMI BEACH CITY COMMISSION WITH REGARD TO THE CITY'S NOVEMBER 2005 ELECTIONS (INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO CITY OF MIAMI BEACH RESOLUTION NO. 2005-25998, CALLING THE NOVEMBER 1, 2005 GENERAL ELECTION, AS WELL AS DESIGNATION OF CANVASSING BOARD MEMBERS) FOR THE LIMITED PURPOSE OF CHANGING THE CITY'S GENERAL ELECTION DATE TO NOVEMBER 15, 2005 AND THE CITY'S RUN-OFF ELECTION DATE TO NOVEMBER 29, 2005. WHEREAS, on October 19,2005, Florida Governor Jeb Bush issued Executive Order 05- 219, declaring a state of emergency in the State of Florida due to Hurricane Wilma; and WHEREAS, pursuant to said Executive Order 05-219 and Section 101.733(1), Florida Statutes, on October 29, 2005 Governor Bush issued a declaration of "Elections Emergency" in Miami-Dade County, rescheduling the City of Miami Beach's General Election of November 1,2005 to November 15,2005, and the City's Run-Off Election of November 15,2005 to November 29, 2005; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the Governor's actions, the City of Miami Beach hereby amends all actions taken by the Miami Beach City Commission with regard to the City's November 2005 elections (including, but not limited to City of Miami Beach Resolution No. 2005-25998, calling for the City's November 1, 2005 General Election, as well as action taken by the City Commission on October 19, 2005 designating members of the City's General Election Canvassing Board) for the limited purpose of changing the City's General Election date to November 15,2005, and the City's Run-Off Election date to November 29,2005. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that all actions taken by the Miami Beach City Commission with regard to the City's November 2005 elections (including, but not limited to City of Miami Beach Resolution No. 2005-25998, calling the November 1, 2005 General Election, as well as designation of Canvassing Board members) are hereby amended for the limited purpose of changing the City's General Election date to November 15, 2005 and the City's Run-Off election date to November 29, 2005. DUBBIN K CITY ATTORNEY \J SUBJECT: CITY RESOLUTION REFLECTING GOVERNOR BUSH'S DECLARATION OF ELECTIONS EMERGENCY -CITY'S GENERAL ELECTION DATE CHANGED FROM NOVEMBER 1, 2005 TO NOVEMBER 15, 2005, AND CITY'S RUN-OFF ELECTION DATE CHANGED FROM NOVEMBER 15, 2005 TO NOVEMBER 29, 2005. In recognition of Florida Governor Jeb Bush's Executive Order 05-219 and subsequent declaration of Elections Emergency in Miami-Dade County due to Hurricane Wilma, the attached resolution has been drafted for the purpose of amending actions taken by the City Commission with regard to the City's November 2005 election schedule-the City's General Election of November 1, 2005 has been rescheduled to November 15, 2005, and the City's Run-Off Election (if necessary) of November 15, 2005 has been rescheduled to November 29, 2005.
