RESOLUTION NO. 2005-26043
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR A ND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA AMENDING THE
POLICY OF VICE-MAYOR ROTATION COMMENCING
NOVEMBER 1, 2005.
Whereas, since 1994, the Miami Beach City Commission has rotated the
position of Vice-Mayor every four months via Commission Group number; pursuant to
this policy, Commission Group I is slated to commence occupying the position of Vice-
Mayor on November 1, 2005; and,
Whereas, inasmuch as a newly elected official will be assuming office in
Commission Group I effective November, 2005, the Miami Beach City Commission
hereby reestablishes its policy for Vice-Mayor position rotation order to be as follows:
effective November 1, 2005, Commission Group III shall assume the position of Vice-
Mayor for four months until February 28, 2006, whereupon Commission Group II shall
so serve as Vice-Mayor for the following four month period, followed by Commission
Group I to so serve for the following four month period, with such rotation schedule to
be continued in this fashion for Commission Groups IV, V, and VI; and,
Whereas thereafter, the subsequent rotation schedule for Vice-Mayor shall be in
the logistical order commencing with Commission Group I, followed by Commission
Groups II, III, IV, V, and VI.
NOW, THEREFORE, BEl T D UL Y RESOLVED BY T HE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that it hereby amends it policy of Vice-
Mayor rotation by providing that commencing November 1, 2005, Commission Group III
shall assume the position of Vice-Mayor for four months until February 28, 2006,
whereupon Commission Group II shall so serve as Vice-Mayor for the following four
month period, followed by Commission Group I to so serve for t 0110 ng four month
period, with such rotation schedule to be continued in this t s on r mmission
Groups IV, V, and VI.

DISCUSSION REGARDING A RESOLUTION ELECTING THE NEXT VICE-
MAYOR FOR A TERM COMMENCING ON NOVEMBER 1, 2005, AND
TERMINATING ON FEBRUARY 28,2006.

The City Commission has establistied a policy of rotating the position of Vice-Mayor every
four (4) months. Since 1994, the rotation has been by Commission Group number. The
next Vice-Mayor Group is Group I. The term for the next Vice-Mayor is November 1, 2005
through February 28, 2006. Since the Group I Commissioner is not yet elected, the
com~tlion needs to determine how to handle the selection of the next Vice-Mayor.
