2000-23777 RESO RESOLUTION NO. 2000-23777 A RESOLUTION OF THE MA YORAND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE PROPOSED USES OF THE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department applied for grant funds to the United States Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No, 99-23343, the Mayor and City Commission approved the application for these funds at its regular meeting on October 6, 1999; and WHEREAS, on January 12,2000, the Mayor and City Commission approved a resolution setting a public hearing regarding the proposed use of Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds that the City has applied for through the Police Department; and WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this project are $543,634, of which $489,271 will be funded by the United States Department of Justice, and the remaining $54,363 will be funded by the City from the Police Confiscations Account; and WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to fund three new non-sworn positions, salaries and benefits for two years ($201,343); purchase equipment ($204,791); and fund supplemental overtime for crime prevention programs throughout the City ($137,500) as attached in Exhibit A hereto; and WHEREAS, this is the fourth year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, and the proposed use of these funds, as set forth in the attached Exhibit, has the approval of the Administration and was also endorsed by the Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council at its regular meeting on November 23, 1999; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the public hearing is to provide an opportunity for members of the community to discuss and/or comment upon the proposed uses of the funds; the proposed uses of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds are in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Miami Beach, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission, following a duly noticed public hearing, herein approve and authorize the proposed uses of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds, PASSED and ADOPTED this 26th day of January, 2000. 1V MAYOR ATTEST: JilJLd~ ~Ud{L" CITY CLERK APPROVED AS TO FORM & LANGUAGE & FOR EXECUTION F:\POLI\TECHSERV\POLICIES\COM_RESO\blk grant 2000 approval. res.wpd ~~. -."': DADE-MIAMI CRIMINAL JUSTICE COUNCIL COUNCIL MEMBERS :'fIr.
