HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-26069 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2005-26069 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, AUTHORIZING THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ACCESS INFORMATION FROM THE JANUS/JUSTICXCHANGE, A JAIL INMATE LOCATOR SERVICE. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department is responsible for the investigation of criminal activity which may require the verification of a subject/suspect in the custody of the State of Florida's correctional facilities; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement a licensee of Appriss provides JANUS/JusticeXchange, a Jail Inmate Locator Service to Florida's criminal justice agencies; and WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will provide this Jail Inmate Locator service via two licenses to the Miami Beach Police Department at no cost to the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department agrees to the terms and conditions of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for this purpose; and WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Understanding will become effective the day it is executed and will be for a term of two years, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED THAT THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that Commission herein authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to Understanding with the City and Florida Department of Law Miami Beach Police Department access to the JANUS/JusticeXcl Service free of charge. Item Summary/Recommendation: The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has signed a two-year term contract acquiring 350 licenses with Appriss to provide JANUS/JusticeXchange, a Jail Inmate Locator Service, to .Florida's criminal justice agencies. This system will provide a single point, web based query of jail inmate data in order to determine whether a person is in the custody of a participating County or State facility. Pursuant the Memorandum Of Understanding, the FDLE Will provide the Miami Beach Police Department two software licenses at no cost to the City. This will enable access to this information from two computer terminals in our Criminal Investigations Division. This service will be an excellent investigative support tool and benefit to our detectives at no cost to the City of Miami Beach. The Administration recommends approving the resolution.
