DATE: January 18, 2006
SUBJECT: VOLUNTEER EVENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH MITZVAH DAY
The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that the Neighborhood Services Department is
coordinating a volunteer event with Temple Beth Shalom and the Environmental Coalition of
Miami Beach (ECOMB) for Sunday, January 22, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as a part
of Mitzvah Day. Mitzvah Day is an annual event and day of obligation sponsored by Temple
Beth Shalom to provide volunteer opportunities for its members and the community at large.
It is an opportunity to do a good deed by improving the lives of others. This is the second
year the City of Miami Beach has coordinated this event.
Approximately 30 volunteers from the Miami Beach community will remove litter and debris
from the beach and dunes between 45th to 47th Streets. The Parks and Recreation and
Public Works Departments will provide support in the form of tools and equipment and
removal of garbage bags. City staff and ECOMB will provide supervision on the day of the
event and volunteers will submit waivers through that organization for participation in the
activity.
The City of Miami Beach continues to reach out to form partnerships in our effort to improve
the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. Should you have any questions or
are interested in participating in this event, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
