ANALYSIS
On December 3, 1997, the City Commission authorized the award of a construction contract in the
amount of $6,450,500 to Danville-Findorff, Inc. for the Expansion and Renovation of the Bass
Museum of Art.
On October 6, 1999, the City Commission authorized the award of an asbestos abatement contract
to DPC General Contractors, Inc. (Resolution No. 99-23346), for the removal of asbestos containing
material which was uncovered during demolition of interior installations in the existing building.
This material was previously concealed and was not discovered during the previous asbestos testing
performed in 1995, prior to beginning construction.
Additional interior areas of the building, not originally anticipated to be disturbed during the
renovation, now require removal. These areas were tested, as they were suspected of containing
asbestos materials. The tests indicate that asbestos containing materials exist, requiring abatement.
