Mayra Diaz Buttacavoli
Asst. City Manager
City of Miami Beach
Dear Asst. City Manager Diaz Buttacavoli:
Officer Winer advised us that you requested him to secure Mid-Golf Neighborhood
Association approval for parking on the Dade Boulevard lot between Prairie and Meridian
Avenues ("Resnick Lot"). We appreciate your sensitivity to the burdens and disruptions -
traffic, noise and debris - caused by the Boat Show to our neighborhood.
The Association has not had had a chance to meet this year. However, in the past, for
purposes of the Boat Show, our Association has had no objections to the use of the Resnick Lot.
I do not believe that any members of the Association would come to a different conclusion now.
Also, in the past the City agreed to the following:
· Pick up the debris daily along Prairie and Meridian Avenues;
· P.rohibit staging on Prairie and Meridian Avenues;
· Enforce exi~ting ordinances against ~leeJ>ing in trucks at the convention center during
move in/out; and
· Prohibit move in/out afler 10 p.m. (11 p.m. Fri. and Sat.) an~ before 7 a.rn;
We would appreciate the City's strict enforcement. Also, I would appreciate your providing a
number that we can call for pr9mpt enforcement of the above listed items.
Finally, thank you and please thank: Officer Winer very much for your sensitivity to our
concerns. -=..:: ~ ---..

ANALYSIS
The Miami Beach Police Athletic League (PAL) has requested permission to use the private vacant

DATE 2-'1-00
lot, located on Dade Boulevard, between Prairie Avenue and Meridian Avenue, for parking of
vehicles for persons who will be attending the 2000 Miami Beach International Boat Show. The
Miami Beach International Boat Show, like other Special Events, increases the parking needs that
occur in the City. The use of this vacant lot for parking for this event would provide additional
parking and create less of an inconvenience for those of our citizens who live in the area. In addition,
the Police Athletic League will:
1. Hire an off-duty police officer to direct traffic for the ingress and egress on Dade
Boulevard.
2. Obtain a lettcr from the Mid-Golf Homeowncrs Association stating that they arc in
agreement with the usc of this property on this date and these times.
3. Submit a plan showing the use of the property to the Planning Department for approval.
4. Supply a letter from PAL to the owner of the property stating that the property will be
returned in the same condition as it was before the use.
5. Obtain a General Liability Certificate ofInsurance naming the City as an additional named
insured.
6. Parking in the Vacant Lot will not occur until the public parking facilitics on 17th Strcet
and the Miami Beach High School parking lot and football field are full.
By permitting PAL to use this vacant lot, parking availability will be improved and PAL will be able
to. raise much needed funds for its operations.
