98-22670 RESORESOLUTION NO. 98-22670 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF AN EMERGENCY PURCHASE ORDER TO EMS, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF $63,000, FOR THE PURCHASE OF SIX SETS OF ADDITIONAL BATTERIES FOR THE SHUTTLE VEHICLES, UTILIZING 1997-98 ELECTROWAVE BUDGET FUNDS. WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Transportation Management Association (MBTMA) requested that the Mayor and City Commission, at the February 18, 1998 meeting, approve the issuance of an emergency purchase order to EMS, Inc., for the acquisition of six sets of additional batteries for the Electrowave vehicles; and WHEREAS, due to the tremendous success of the Electrowave service, the existing number of battery sets have been proven insufficient to meet the service demands while allowing for the required battery-cooling period prior to recharges; and WHEREAS, in order to preserve the Electrowave schedule and prevent battery- cell damage, it is essential that each of the seven electric shuttle vehicles have two sets of batteries; and WHEREAS, EMS, Inc. is the sole supplier of Fulman batteries which meet shuttle vehicle specifications; and WHEREAS, EMS, Inc. quoted a price of 910,500 per battery set, or 963,000 per six sets, including delivery. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission herein authorize the issuance of an emergency purchase order to EMS, Inc., in the amount of 963,000, for the purchase of six sets of additional batteries for the shuttle vehicles, utilizing 1997-98 Electrowave Budget funds.
