A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA PAYING TRIBUTE TO AND
CONGRATULATING MIAMI CHILDREN'S
HOSPITAL ON THE CELEBRATION OF ITS
FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY ON MARCH 21,
2000.
WHEREAS, Miami Children's Hospital is a world class children's hospital which had its
humble beginnings on March 21,1950 as Variety Children's Hospital;
WHEREAS, after his granddaughter's sorrowful death from leukemia, Ambassador David
McClean Walters, former U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican, vowed to create a facility where South
Florida's children could receive the best possible medical care and attention; and
WHEREAS, under the tireless leadership of Ambassador Walters, the Miami Children's
Hospital Foundation has raised substantial funds to support the development of Miami Children's
.
Hospital into a "Pinnacle of Pediatrics"; and
WHEREAS, under thc exceptional steering and superb guidance of its current President,
Tom Rozek, Miami Children's Hospital continues to administer superior care to scores of infirm
children not only in South Florida, but throughout the entire United States and, indeed, the world;
and
WHEREAS, essential to the achievement of excellence by the Miami Children's Hospital
has been the dedication of its talented medical staff and the support of the caring South Florida
community; and

W~EREAS, the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach wish to
acknowledge and congratulate Miami Children's Hospital on its fiftieth anniversary on March 21,
2000 and to pay tribute to this excellent medical facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that Miami Children's Hospital
is hereby paid tribute and congratulated on the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary on March 21,
2000.
