Miami Beach Receives Prestigious Transparent Budget Award
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:
The purpose of this Letter to the Commission is to announce the City's receipt of The
Performance Institute's Transparent Budget Award at the 6th Annual City and County
Performance Summit (CCPS) in Las Vegas, Nevada held on March 6-8, 2006.
The City of Miami Beach was presented with the Transparent Budget Award, which honors
City and County governments that have implemented innovative management practices and
brought dynamic results for their citizens. The award recognizes municipalities that have
integrated performance data into budgets and increased transparency for cost of
government service. The City received this recognition for incorporating the community
priorities and needs identified through the Community Satisfaction Survey into the budget
process.
The Performance Institute identifies, studies and disseminates the leading management
innovations pioneered by "best-in-class" organizations. A strictly non-partisan organization,
The Performance Institute serves as the nation's leading repository of thoroughly
researched, documented, catalogued and peer-reviewed "best practices" in a multitude of
issue areas.
Transparency, particularly in the budget process, is one of the most important principles in
government. I am proud to announce the City's receipt of this award, especially as it
recognizes our continued efforts to align our budgetary resources with our strategic priorities.
