A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH CONCURRING WITH THE CITY'S MISSION
AND VALUE STATEMENTS AS COMPOSED BY CITY EMPLOYEES
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is committed to excellence; and,
WHEREAS, the City did not have a mission statement and value statements
composed by the employees; and,
WHEREAS, the City Manager selected employees from all levels of the City
staff to take part in the composition of a mission statement and value statements; and,
WHEREAS, T.C. Adderly, Human Resources Director, Vincent Andreano,
Beach Patrol Captain, Pat Becerra, Code Compliance Officer, Florence Cohan, Training
and Development Coordinator, Rhonda Crenshaw, Sanitation Coordinator, Mary
Greenwood, Executive Assistant to the City Manager - Labor Relations, Valerie Hanson,
Clerk Typist, Police Department, Mercy Lamazares, Planner, Lawrence Levy, City
Manager, Joe McManus, Life Guard, Laura Orozco, IT Tech Specialist III, Olivia
Mooney, Office Associate V, Parking, Nathan Pope, PW Operations Supervisor, Ruth
Rahmani, Civil Engineer, Building, Tim Rice, Fire Captain, Nannette Rodriguez, Media
Relations Officer, Bernie Ruder, Police Officer/FOP President, Joseph Simmons,
Recreation Leader, Desta Teelucksingh, Municipal Service Worker II, Parks, Armando
Vega, Account Clerk, Finance, and Michael Vita, Civicall Administrator met on February
10, 2000; and,
WHEREAS, after several revisions, a mission statement and value statements
were composed to concur with the employees' values and vision; and,
WHEREAS, the mission statement states, "Weare committed to providing
excellent public service and safety to all who live, work, and play in our vibrant,
tropical, historic community"; and,
WHEREAS, the value statements are as follows:
We maintain the City of Miami Beach as a world-class city.
We work as a cooperative team of well-trained professionals.
We serve the public with dignity and respect.
We conduct the business of the City with honesty, integrity, and dedication.
We are ambassadors of good will to our residents, visitors, and the business
community; and,
WHEREAS, the mISSIOn statement and value statements shall become the
philosophy by which employees will work and do the business of the City; and,
WHEREAS, the mission statement and value statements will used in business
and promotional materials to reinforce the City's commitment to excellence; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the
Mayor and City Commission herein concur with the mission statement and value
statements composed by City employees and approve these statements for use in business
and promotional materials to promote and reinforce the City's commitment to excellence.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Resolution.
ANAL YSIS:
The City of Miami Beach Administration is committed to excellence. Several programs have been
used to promote morale as well as improve customer service and professional skills. As part of the
process of promoting excellence within the organization, the City Administration selected employees
from all levels of the Administration to take part in a Mission Statement Ad Hoc Committee to
compose a mission statement and value statements that are in keeping with what and who they are
as public servants. A workshop was held on February 10,2000. After an intensive brainstorming
session, several versions were composed to concur with the values the employees represent.
The Committee was composed of T.c. Adderly, Human Resources Director, Vincent Andreano,
Beach Patrol Captain, Pat Becerra, Code Compliance Officer, Florence Cohan, Training and
Development Coordinator, Rhonda Crenshaw, Sanitation Coordinator, Mary Greenwood, Executive
Assistant to the City Manager - Labor Relations, Valerie Hanson, Clerk Typist, Police Department,
Mercy Lamazares, Planner, Lawrence Levy, City Manager, Joe McManus, Life Guard, Laura

The following mission statement was finally composed, "We are committed to providing excellent
public service and safety to all who live, work, and play in our vibrant, tropical, historic
community."
