HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-26147 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2006-26147 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE SELECTION OF WIDELL INC. FOR THE EMERGENCY REPAIRS TO THE VENETIAN CAUSEWAY WATER MAIN, IN THE AMOUNT OF $195,000. WHEREAS, a 30" transmission water main that delivers potable water to the City splits into two 16" ductile iron transmission water mains; and WHEREAS, in order to clear the Biscayne Bay, those two 16" transmission water mains are secured to Bridge No. 874461 and Bridge No. 874463 with hangers underneath the north side and the south side of said Bridges; and WHEREAS, during Hurricane Wilma, two sail boats hit one of the 16" transmission water mains on the south side of the above referenced Bridges, causing holes and structural damage to three sections of pipe, damage to the hangers, and misalignment of the pipe; and WHEREAS, the 16" transmission water main on the south side had to be shut down causing the system to run at half capacity; and WHEREAS, this reduction in capacity created a situation in which a contractor had to be hired by the Public Works Department, on an emergency basis, to replace the pipes, damaged hangers and bolts, realign the pipes, and restore the system to its original condition; and WHEREAS, sections of the transmission water main that are secured with hangers to Bridge No. 874481, located between Belle Isle and Purdy Avenue, had some damaged hangers that had to be replaced, and the misaligned pipes had to be re-aligned; and WHEREAS, the Public Works Department obtained bids from two different contractors, Ric-Man International, Inc., at $557,520, and Widell, Inc., at $195,000; and WHEREAS, Public Works selected Widell, Inc. as the lowest bidder, and added a contingency of $14,000 for unforeseen conditions, for a total amount of $209,000; and WHEREAS, there were no unforeseen conditions, and the final cost of this emergency repair was $195,000. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby ratify the selection of Widell Inc. for the emergency repairs to the Venetian Causeway Water Main, in the amount f $195,000.
